The seventh convocation of IUBAT—International University of Business Agriculture and Technology was held on 25th July at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BBCFEC), Dhaka. Bachelors and master degrees were conferred to over two thousand five hundred qualified students through this convocation. Graduation was conferred in the agriculture, business, electrical and electronic, civil, computer, mechanical, economics, tourism and hospitality, and nursing. IUBAT Founder Gold Medal was awarded to three students who secured 4.00 out of 4.00 all through their study period. The Founder Miyan Gold Medalists are Md Syekat Ahmed from Civil Engineering, Mst Sumyia Akter from tourism and hospitality management and Tasnia Anjum Rifah from computer science and engineering. Md Syekat Ahmed scored highest marks among the gold medalists and won the most prestigious Alimullah Miyan Award along with a prize of Tk. 100,000.
Deputy Education Minister Mr Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, MP, presided over the convocation and conferred degrees as the representative of the honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Convocation Speaker was Prof Dr Kakha Shengelia, President of Caucasus University, Georgia and Chairman of the Board, International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), USA. Dr youngmin Seo, First Secretary, Embassy of Republic of Korea in Bnagladesh was special guest.
Zubier Alim, Chairman of IUBAT Board of Trustees highlighted the history and achievements of none-government universities in Bangladesh that was paved by establishment of IUBAT. He congratulated the new graduates and urged them to work for excellence of the motherland through hard work and honesty.
Deputy Education Minister highly praised the ranking of IUBAT in different global rankings including Times Higher Education Impact Ranking and QS World University Rankings. He advised the students to continue to pursue knowledge and skills for wellbeing of the mankind. He spoke in details the contribution of honorable Prime Minister in improving the quality of higher education in Bangladesh to achieve sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He added that the unprecedented efforts undertaken by our government in various areas, including institutionalization, digital transformation, physical infrastructure development, policy initiatives, and the implementation of laws and regulations to foster continuous improvement in the higher education environment, have resulted in remarkable achievements and transformations within the higher education sector of Bangladesh.
Convocation Speaker Kakha Shengelia stated that IUBAT stands as a beacon of excellence in higher education, producing graduates who have made remarkable contributions nationally and internationally. He added that Bangladesh’s investment in education reflects our belief in the potential of the youth. The university exemplifies the vision and will continue to lead in developing young professionals and the education sector. He advised the new graduates to equip with knowledge and skills acquired at IUBAT to embrace endless possibilities.
The Special Guest Dr Youngmin Seo appreciated the multidisciplinary education of IUBAT while promoting cross-cultural understanding and nurturing leaders who can address the complex challenges of the 21st century.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr Zubier Alim stated that today’s graduates truly embody the transformative potential of perseverance and dedication. Through the KBAD program, IUBAT has extended its impact, providing students with financial support to pursue education and transition seamlessly into the workforce, securing sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. By breaking down financial barriers, IUBAT attracts students from 64 districts of Bangladesh, fostering empowerment and breaking the cycle of poverty at the micro level, ultimately contributing to the long-term, sustainable growth of our nation.
Address of welcome was offered by IUBAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abdur Rab and Treasurer Prof. Selina Nargis offered the Vote of Thanks. In the address of welcome, Vice-Chancellor Dr Rab highlighted the university theme of producing at least one professional graduate from each village of Bangladesh and appraised about the achievements and success of graduates in job and entrepreneurial activities.
While offering vote of thanks, Prof Selina Nargis highlighted the barriers of early days faced by the Founder of IUBAT Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan and expressed her hope that the graduates will contribute to the overall development of the motherlands as envisioned by the pioneer of non-government university Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan.
In the valedictory speech, Ms Sumyia Akter advised the fellow graduates to keep faith and confidence on themselves. This is important for success in life.
IUBAT was established in 1991 as the first non-government University of Bangladesh by Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan who was Professor of Dhaka University and Director of Dhaka University’s Institute of Business Administration.
